They are extracted and carefully cut open, with the edges polished. This highlights the colors and shapes of the edge, which often consists of agate, chalcedony, and rock crystal. To ensure stability, a small base is made from concrete. The outer surface of the amethyst geode is coated to prevent flaking of outer shell particles, making it suitable for home use.
